How To Clean A Leather Biker Jacket?
Proper cleaning and maintenance of a product is closely related with its longevity. I can say that products can be treated like a person, in a way that it must be given proper care and attention. Biker jackets are no exception for that. As an owner, how can we clean and maintain our leather jacket?
Cleaning with a mild soapy solution
One preferred method that can be used to clean the outside of the biker jacket is a mild soapy solution. It can be made by adding a small amount of Ph balanced unscented liquid soap, baby shampoo or pet shampoo into a bucket of warm water. Mix well. Moisten the sponge or soft cloth with the soapy water. Gently wipe down the exterior of the jacket with it. Don’t scrub the leather jacket. Rinse it with a moistened with plain water piece of sponge or soft cloth and wipe the entire biker jacket to remove any soap residue and dry it with another soft cloth. This method is only used when the biker jacket is actually dirty; that means it is done annually the most.
Leather wipes can also be used in cleaning the biker jacket
It can be more easy to use and convenient. But on the other hand, these shampoos and conditioners for leather are separately sold as individual products. It can mean that proper cleaning of your leather jacket cannot be done by a single product. It makes it more expensive.
Olive oil, or other vegetable oils, can be used to clean a leather jacket
First, you must dip a soft cleaning cloth into olive oil or other vegetable oil. It is recommended to use a generous amount of oil. Next, gently rub the oil coated cloth over the dirty areas to remove the stain or dirt. Continue rubbing gently until the mark lifts.
White vinegar can also be used to clean the leather apparel. All you have to do is to rub the spot with a little white vinegar. After that, you can also condition the leather by mixing equal amounts of olive oil and white vinegar and applying the solution using another clean soft cloth.
All these leather cleaning procedures don’t give a hundred percent assurance to turn your leather biker jacket like brand new, but somehow it can help. Results may vary depending on the method that is used and there is a possibility that it can cause damage on the leather apparel if not done carefully.
